1. Digital Communication Investigation
• The problem is that nowadays people don't understand how important the environment is. even with Community & Service people still treat this world like a piece of trash. It is that the world is falling apart from the us human beings. Global Warming, War, Natural Disasters, etcetera. This problem is important as it links to me, because i have a beach right next to my house. The look of things in the beach isn't very good because there is pieces of trash everywhere. People are spitting, or littering just as they are walking by. A really good thing would be to organize a beach clean-up group for the beach. This problem would be bad for the society because the world wouldn't be a better place with dirty beaches. I for one could go to the beach every single day for 2 months and clean up; it would be no different. The beach will stay dirty as the days go by. The society isn't very well, it's almost like the beach automatically gets dirty. Solving this problem will help the Area Of Interaction by health and safety VaRY much. By making a damn, and keeping the ocean waves by going so far into the beach, causing jellyfish, eels, or any sort of dangerous sea creatures coming on to the ocean, it would help the sea creatures stay in the sea.

Digital Communication

Digital Communication refers to a sequence of digital messages, communicating through one person to another. These could be problems, therapy, education, online purchasing. John is an example, he gets his therapy online because of his fathers death.

Effective digital communication is the ability to create persuasive 

communications in different media, be it websites, video, audio, text, or 

animated multimedia. Digital communication is a foundation skill for most 

careers today, as most people will be involved in some form of conceptualizing, 

producing, delivering, and receiving such communications in their jobs and 

lives.  Starting in elementary school and extending to higher education, students 

can learn a variety of digital communication skills across all their courses, 

whether they build multimedia presentations to demonstrate their knowledge of 

academic subjects, create e-portfolios of coursework, or present ideas in a 

virtual classroom. 

In the past year, several reports on digital literacy have been published.  They 

describe digital literacy, what it is, and its importance as a 21st century skill for 

this generation of learners.  The Metiri Group and NCREL published, “enGauge 

21st Century Skills, Literacy in the Digital Age,” in which they showcase the 

skills with which students will be ready to thrive in a technological, global 

environment.  Based on two years of research, they’ve developed a collection of 

skill clusters to be included right next to rigorous academic standards:  digital- 

age literacy, inventive thinking, high productivity, and effective communication.  

Effective communication presumes that students select and use multiple 

technology tools to create persuasive messages. 

Why Internet Can Be A Good Or Thing Sometimes..

“It may look as though kids are wasting a lot of time hanging out with new media, whether it’s on MySpace or sending instant messages,” said Mizuko Ito, lead researcher on the study, “Living and Learning With New Media.” “But their participation is giving them the technological skills and literacy they need to succeed in the contemporary world. They’re learning how to get along with others, how to manage a public identity, how to create a home page.”

 This Article got under my skin.  My social media involvement has skyrocketed since I ended up in California, and I've been worrying a lot about that.  I'm trying to imagine the world I'm investing in, the value of the time I'm spending, what I might be doing if I actually felt as cut off as I am.  My comment on the article is below. ]

To us, grown-up talk of ‘literacy’ and ’skills’ sound like the same cheery, contrarian rationalization that brought us ‘hand-eye coordination.’  If you think these are the benefits and non-standard English is the threat you are missing nearly everything.

Social media clearly speaks to deep needs in us.  We need a public life and common space.  We crave a sense of participation in each other’s lives.  We are eager to make the boundaries between stranger, acquaintance and friend more fluid, more full of possibilities.  We thrill at the chance to create a common experience, rather than just watch one.

As far as we can tell, our parents’ (grandparents’?) generation abandoned public space.  We grew up in suburbs, begging for rides to the mall.  We grew up in cities on supposedly risky streets.  Our parents were obsessed with child abductions.  We went to universities where video games and alcohol concerns pushed socializing behind closed doors.  We visited Europe and saw picnics, plazas, squares, piazzas, biergartens, joined the evening passegiatta, korso and paseo, and we swooned.  After college, everyone we knew spread to the four corners of the Earth, and meeting people became much harder.

Social media is our solution for an impoverished public sphere.  The downside?  It will certainly perpetuate it.  The real danger is not our spelling.  It is this: the brighter the mirage and it is, without a doubt, a mirage the less motivation we will have to actually build the world we desire and deserve.

Cyber Bullying Online

Julianne Flory is the biggest victim in my opinion that is exposed to cyber bullying:

"We're going to get you tomorrow, you look like an ugly slut.

"There's no point in you wearing make-up because you look like a clown.

"You slut, no-one is going to touch you because you're a lesbian. You are a slag and you look like one. You need to get some friends because you have none."

Those are the words that schoolgirl Julianne Flory found posted about her on her social networking website.

Julianne would like to study sport-science but is not able to because of this cyber bullying.

She feels that the A-level students are being so tough on her and feels that she isn't able to graduate that year.

Julianne is an engaging and attractive girl with curly brown hair who is good at judo and teaches swimming at her local pool. Yet she describes being the victim of the most cruel abuse from girls at her last school over several years. It started in the ordinary way, with taunts and shoves in the corridor. But then the bullies got access to Julianne's web page on her social networking site.

How can I become a responsible citizen when using technology?

One could be a responsible citizen by, for example, using the internet for appropriate things like school work. Responsibility nowadays is hard to find with teenage boys using the internet. The internet thats being used by teenagers is usually used for viewing pornography, webcam viewing, and other inappropriate things. What has to happen is a limit has to come up, the government should block these website for anyone under the age of 19. Another irresponsible citizen is a citizen that plays online games in class when he/she should really be working.
